about

The follow-up to 2012’s TERRA NULLIUS (hailed by Rolling Stone as, “a wet-season postcard from Psychoville, N.Q.”), HOLY COAST sees THE BROKEN NEEDLES’ ferocious twin-guitar attack gracefully supplanted by billowing synth textures, meandering pedal steel lines and baroque string arrangements. The result is a lucid dreamscape that traverses the astral plane from a salt-kissed coastal dawn to the glowing pink sunsets of the western desert across the album’s eight songs.

The release comes after the band’s recent move from North Queensland, Australia to Melbourne; their cathartic live shows having gained a dedicated following in the southern capital.

At the heart of the record is a flickering, slow-burning lounge flame with a pulsing undercurrent of detached lunacy and seroquel soul. Strings lull in and out of focus, sober pianos tinker in the distance, and muted trumpets sound from ‘cross the great divide of shoegaze guitar feedback and swirling synth squalls; with the sugar cane molasses of Mick Galloway’s quavering baritone gluing the whole thing together.
